This is one of the questions we get asked most often, we totally get why it’s confusing. There are so many social media platforms out there and new ones popping up all the time. The pressure to be everywhere is real, but it’s also one of the biggest mistakes we see businesses make.
The platform you should be on is wherever your ideal customer is hanging out. Sounds simple, but it’s genuinely the most important question to ask. A B2B company selling services to other businesses is going to find their people in a completely different place to a local bakery targeting mums in their area. Know your audience first, then choose your platforms.
Despite what people say, Facebook is absolutely still worth being on, especially if your audience is 30+. It’s brilliant for local businesses, community building, events and paid advertising. Facebook ads in particular are incredibly powerful for reaching very specific audiences.
If your business is visual, think interiors, beauty, food, fashion, events, lifestyle. Instagram is your best friend. It’s a platform built for aesthetic content and it rewards consistency. Reels in particular are getting huge reach now, so if you’re not using them, start. Great for B2C businesses wanting to build a loyal, engaged following.
LinkedIn is the place to be if you’re targeting other businesses or professionals. It’s brilliant for B2B companies, consultants, coaches and anyone who wants to be seen as an expert in their field. It’s more formal in tone but is becoming much more personal and conversational, which makes it a great place to build real connections.
TikTok isn’t just for teenagers dancing, we promise! It’s one of the fastest growing platforms for businesses and if your audience is under 45, there’s a very good chance they’re on there. Short, punchy, informative videos do brilliantly and the organic reach is still incredible compared to other platforms. If you’re willing to show up on camera, TikTok could be a game changer.
It’s better to show up consistently on two platforms than to be patchy and inconsistent across five. Pick the ones that make sense for your audience, commit to them and do them really well. Quality over quantity every single time.
If you’re not sure which platforms are right for you, we can help!
